Shaun McCallaghan, CEO, eCOGRA
eCOGRA is a management owned company that was incorporated in the United Kingdom in 2003 with the purpose of establishing and improving operational standards and player safety requirements in the online gambling industry. Since then, eCOGRA has established itself as one of the industry’s leading testing and certification laboratories and acts as a regulatory audit partner to over 100 multi-jurisdictional operators, software providers and other relevant service providers. The organisation is the latest to make the transition from visitor to exhibitor. CEO Shaun McCallaghan explains what success will look like in London.
What is it about ICE London that makes the event so important?
ICE is widely recognised throughout the industry as the one show that cannot be missed and eCOGRA has been present as a visitor at every edition for the past 15 years. We’ll be exhibiting for the first time in 2019, which is a very exciting prospect for our senior management and business development team that will be representing eCOGRA.
In layman’s terms, can you explain the business proposition and what success looks like?
Our objective is to engage with industry players that operate across multiple licensing jurisdictions, which take compliance seriously – this includes many organisations that are typically present at ICE. ICE represents a unique opportunity for us to have face-to-face contact with many of our existing clients present at the show from all over the world. We are looking forward to reflecting on activities from the past year and better understanding our clients’ future plans. We are also expecting to create greater awareness of our organisation amongst new market entrants, as ICE is so well attended by the industry.
Which gaming sectors and jurisdictions are you targeting and why?
We are focused only on online gambling, which has enabled us to become highly specialised and experienced in all aspects of regulatory compliance in this sector of the industry. The jurisdictions we target are those that require the services of independent and professional auditors and testing laboratories for the technical certification of licensees. We are also firmly committed to servicing our clients in each of the regulated markets where they choose to license their online gambling products.
Why 2019? What was the impetus for your company to exhibit at ICE London at this time?
Due to continuous growth within our company and the significant number of our staff attending ICE, in order for us to manage back-to-back client meetings, it really just made sense for us to get a dedicated visible space which ensures that we have a working environment that is conducive to comfortable and productive meetings.
What sets you apart: is anyone else doing anything similar to your knowledge?
Since we focus only on online gambling, we consider ourselves experts in this particular field. We are able to offer the most comprehensive suite of auditing services that an operator or software supplier licensed across multiple highly regulated jurisdictions would typically require. eCOGRA is the only testing laboratory that is authorised to offer operators and service providers accredited ISO/IEC 27001 certifications for Information Security Management Systems. We are also the only laboratory that is approved to provide Alternative Dispute Resolution services as required by operators licensed in Great Britain and Malta.
As a first time exhibitor, what are you most looking forward to?
We are looking forward to being able to offer a comfortable meeting place for our existing clients and we’re excited about engaging with new people who are simply interested in what we do. We also expect our first-time experience of exhibiting will provide us with a great opportunity to see how we can enhance our presence at future ICE shows.
eCOGRA is exhibiting at ICE London (5-7 February, ExCeL London, UK) on stand N1-120.

Enhanced crypto casino 13 seconds quicker than largest competitor brands.
Bitcasino.io, the leading licensed Bitcoin casino operated by the Coingaming Group, has relaunched, offering players the fastest and most user-friendly casino experience on the market with load speeds up to eight times faster than its competitors.
The new mobile-first Bitcasino site loads in just two seconds and is eight times faster than some of the most well-known gaming brands, offering the new generation of tech savvy players the quickest route to the ultimate casino experience. Click here to see more.
Bitcasino’s philosophy is to put its customers at the ‘centre of the universe’, and its team of designers and developers have spent the last two months creating the most advanced, mobile-first and customer-friendly casino product.
The new site contains a host of features that enable players to completely personalise their experience. This includes an extensive range of configurable search filters, easy-to-use and control wallet options and a wide-range of new and improved promotions that will keep Bitcasino players engaged and able to play within a fast, fair and secure environment. Players new to crypto currency can also use BTCXE, the industry-first fiat-to-Bitcoin currency converter.
The site has been designed with Bitcasino players front of mind using machine learning to offer them games which suit their precise personal preferences. Bitcasino users can search for their favourite game by name, type, such as Macau, Egyptian or classic fruit-themed titles, and their favourite game provider.
The relaunch is the first release in a long list of new improvements due to be implemented as a direct result of player feedback.
One of the improvements users can expect in the coming weeks is an enhanced search allowing players to filter gameplay by parameters such as Return to Player (RTP) percentage, hit frequency and volatility. The site already contains games for every and any type of player, whether they prefer feature-rich games with smaller but more frequent wins, or classic high volatility slots with less hit frequency but huge payouts.
Tauri Tiitsaar, Head of Casino at Bitcasino.io, said: “Our philosophy is to put our customers at the centre of the universe and we have done exactly that with our relaunched Bitcasino product which truly is the ultimate, player-centric, mobile-first product.
“Our players wanted a faster loading site, with personalisation and a wide range of search parameters at the heart of the offering. We listen closely to every element of feedback we receive and have delivered on our promises with an exceptional product.”

“We are thankful for this seal of approval,” said CEO Joacim Möller. “It not only signals their approval of our business model but also gives us an opportunity to continue focussing on our largest market.”
This is yet another European licence for Global Gaming, after those recently granted by the Malta Gaming Authority and the Estonian Tax and Customs Board. The company will continue to evaluate opportunities in other jurisdictions.

It was once said that online gaming cannot be effectively regulated. Since then, many jurisdictions around the world have shown this statement to be false. In fact, the introduction of legalized online gaming in European member states over the last decade or more as well as the recent expansion of legalized online gaming in several US States, have shown that online gaming technology provides operators with the ability to protect the interests of the customer more effectively than may be the case in the terrestrial industry. Having said that, the introduction of legalized online gaming has not been without its challenges. Different socio-economic, political and cultural landscapes have posed unique challenges to regulators around the world. During this webinar, we will look at how regulators in the UK, mainland Europe and the USA have responded to these challenges.
Moderated by André Wilsenach, Executive Director of the International Center for Gaming Regulation at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, the panelists are:
George Rover, Managing Partner, Princeton Global Strategies
Birgitte Sand, Director, Danish Gambling Authority
Sonia Wasowska, Senior Manager – Insight, UK Gambling Commission
This session is part of IAGA’s free webinar series focusing on critical issues facing global gaming. Developed in conjunction with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) International Center for Gaming Regulation (ICGR), the UNLV International Gaming Institute (IGI), the UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law and Ernst & Young, and is made possible by Casino International.

APT Finale Philippines 2018: Mikiya Kudo wins the Main Event; Marco Almerez, Bobby Zhang, Kosei Ichinose among the early winners
The end of the year is a busy one for poker players in the region. One of the ongoing festival’s attracting players is the Asian Poker Tour’s last event of the season taking place in the Philippines.
The APT Finale 2018 is currently underway at Resorts World Manila. The festival runs from November 27 to December 6. Half of the games have already concluded including 3 of the 5 guaranteed events. The first featured tournament, the Main Event P10M guaranteed was won last night with Japan’s Mikiya Kudo defeating Korean pro Lim Yohwan at heads up.
Here’s a look at the festival’s early results:
Mikiya Kudo wins the Main Event
The Main Event ran from November 28 to December 2. 307 runners signed up, each one paying the PHP 55,000 buy-in to easily surpass the P10M guarantee. The prize pool settled at PHP 14,889,500 (US$284,500) of which 52 players earned a piece. The largest share of PHP 2,844,500 (US$54,300) went to Japan’s Mikiya Kudo after his impressive performance at heads up against the more seasoned live tournament pro Lim Yohwan.
Mikiya KudoKudo became the 9th APT Main Event champion of the year. His rise began late in Day 3 when he knocked out Sam Welbourne with a full house over a bluff. He also eliminated Che Li Lin to enter the Final 8 round as chip leader with Yohwan trailing in second rank.
The Final 8 was decorated with pros: Kosei Ichinose, Victor Chong, Le Ngoc Khanh, and of course Yohwan. Other than Yohwan who won the APT Philippines II 2018 Championships Event in late-September, everyone else was on the hunt for their first APT major.
Early final table action was dominated largely by Yohwan to steal the lead from Kudo. But where it mattered, at heads up, the momentum reversed. Yohwan was ahead in the count but quickly lost it after Kudo claimed pot after pot. Yohwan could not stop the chips from flowing out and he fell in second place. Kudo claimed his first live tournament career victory and his largest-ever live tournament payout.

Edoc was hot on the hunt for a second APT SHR title, amassing a wide lead over his opponents within the first two levels. After Kim dropped out, Edoc was up 5:1 at heads up however the winds quickly shifted. Wongwichit staged an incredible comeback to overtake Edoc, exposing bluffs and missed draws. A deal was then reached. Wongwichit went on to win it for his first-ever APT title.

Just 2 years after its foundation EGT Colombia has reached the position of a well-known gaming supplier in the country, completing numerous deliveries of a wide range Euro Games Technology’s products with remarkable results. Continuing its advancement on the market, just a month ago the company laid the foundations of a partnership with another international operator – the Millionaires Group from South Africa. Two installations were made in its Millionaires Casino Bogota – a gaming establishment, famous for its high-profile rewarding programs for the players. With a series of special events both companies presented six P-42V Curved St cabinets, housing the Chinese-themed 4-level progressive Fu Gui Rong Hua jackpot and six P-27/27 St Slim machines with the 4-level mystery-progressive Diamond Life. They are connected to a community jackpot system, where are also linked all the casino’s slot machines.
“The operator became acquainted with our products at the numerous international exhibitions we take part in every year and was impressed by the wide range of machines, games and services EGT has to offer,” commented Silvia Marinova, director of EGT Colombia. “The Millionaires Group are famous for their demanding way of choosing the products and are always in search for the best, so we are proud to be among their selected suppliers. As a beginning we have chosen to present to the guests of their casino some of our most popular cabinets and jackpots in Colombia and the more time passes the more we are positive that our approach was correct.”
The observations of the General Manager of Millionaires Casino Bogota and the players confirm the initial performance expectations. The EGT machines are usually occupied most of the time and by different types of players. Best commented were the games’ dynamics, the bonuses and the opportunity to hit more than one jackpot level at a time when playing the Fu Gui Rong Hua. The graphics’ high quality and the games’ storylines and themes were also appreciated.
Thanks to its high-quality products, wide-range portfolio and proactive approach, EGT Colombia has already inked several more deals for the country, some of which for 2019. The relationships with Millionaires Group will progress not only with more installations in Colombia, but also with deliveries for operator’s establishments in foreign markets. Part of its success the local office of EGT owes also to the new games and models that have been constantly introduced. The company has planned key premiers in near future that will further boost its growth in the country.
Jack Sinclair banished the memory of an 8th place finish at the 2017 WSOP in the best way possible last night, winning the WSOPE Main Event for 1,122,239 Euros ($1,279,352). He outlasted a field of 534 players to claim his first career bracelet, besting a final table that included former WSOP Main Event winner, Ryan Riess.
Jack Sinclair – Photo King’s CasinoA star-studded field
The event was a lengthy affair, with 6 days of play leading up to the final table. 7, if you count the two, day 1 starting flights. Many illustrious names descended on King’s Casino in Rozvadov, in the Czech Republic. By the end of the third day, many had fallen by the wayside, but one name really stood out. 2013 WSOP Main Event champion Ryan Riess led the chip counts, with over 4.2 million chips compared to his nearest challenger’s 2.4 million. Igor Kurganov and Sylvain Loosli, both familiar names on the WSOP circuit were also flying high, with two-time bracelet winner Norbert Szesci and Sergio Aido a little further down the order.
Ryan Riess – Photo King’s CasinoAs the next two days passed by, so did the opportunity of victory for all those names, bar one. Ryan Riess seemed to be cruising along serenely, persistently gathering chips and was ever-present around the top of the chip counts.
Sinclair conquers final table
Final Table – Photo King’s CasinoJack Sinclair remained comparatively new to major live events coming into this one. His trip to last year’s WSOP in Las Vegas was his first, and his entry into the Main Event was the first time he had ever bought into an event for $10,000. He proceeded to enjoy an extremely deep run in that tournament, making the final table and finishing 8th place. He once again gave a great display in this WSOPE Main Event, flying somewhat under the radar with Ryan Riess looming large at the final table. While Riess was sliding backwards during the final table, Sinclair was marching onwards. Having entered the final table 4th in the chips he took an early big pot to become one of the main contenders, while Riess eventually faded, falling in 4th place.
Bulgaria’s Krasimir Yankov was soon sent to the rail in 3rd, leaving Sinclair and Hungary’s Laszlo ‘omaha4rollz’ Bujtas to fight for the top prize. In the end, it was a one-sided contest, with Bujtas seemingly struggling to find any cards and Sinclair playing excellent poker from the start. Before long, the final chapter of this event had closed. Bujtas was left rueing what might have been, while Sinclair was fastening his first career WSOP bracelet around his wrist.
The final payouts are as follows:
1st – Jack Sinclair – 1,122,239 Euros ($1,279,352)
2nd – Laszlo Bujtas – 693,573 Euros ($790,673)
3rd – Krasimir Yankov – 480,028 Euros ($547,232)
4th – Ryan Riess – 337,778 Euros ($385,067)
5th – Milos Skrbic – 241,718 Euros ($275,559)
6th – Ihor Yerofieiev – 175,965 Euros ($200,600)

Today sees the start of Responsible Gambling Week in the UK and Ireland, and a number of poker sites have joined to campaign to support responsible gambling.
The Winning Poker Network´s progressive rake race – “The Beast” – is going to be run daily to see if players prefer this format over the weekly structure.
The UK Gambling Commission is introducing new rules from 31st October that (hopefully) will result in a fairer gaming environment for all online gamblers.
With more than $8M in live earnings on the international poker circuit, Manig Loeser is one of the most talented German players. He spent his last few weeks in Rozadov for the WSOPE where our reporter Gaelle Jaudon had the chance to meet him.
Manig Loeser – Photo King’s CasinoSomuchpoker: Your first cash was in 2011, and now you have more than $8 million in live winnings. How have you managed your career? Did you always have a plan in your head?
Manig Loeser: Well, in the beginning I didn’t really have a plan. I just knew that’s what I wanted to do, and I tried really hard to become successful at the game and get better. Also, I got really lucky in the beginning. I had the chance to win something big at one of my first tournament. From there, I just tried to increase my winnings and travel more, and that’s worked out so far! But I never really had a plan in mind.
SMP: What were the most difficult periods of your career?
ML: Oh good question… I think it was a few years ago. I lost quite a lot online before the WSOP, and then during two months at the WSOP, I only got two cashes. I was just busting every day. It was tough to go through that downswing, to try to recover and not lose faith in my abilities.
SMP: But you never thought about quitting the game?
ML: No, not really; that never happened.
SMP: We saw you play on different cash game shows. You had a crazy hand with Dan Shak at the Partypoker Millions and here at the Kings Casino live cash game too. What are the limits you usually play, and how often do you play cash games?
ML: I play very often now. I play quite a bit in Macao, at high stakes limits, and whenever there is a big tournament series with big cash games I try to play them too. It always depends on the situation. I can play low limits too, like 10/25, and up to very high limits.

WSOPE: Ivan Leow conquers €100K Leon’s High Roller, Michael Soyza takes 3rd; Ryan Reiss bags lead at Main Event Day 3
Running alongside the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) bracelet events are a plethora of daily tournaments at host venue King’s Casino. Though the fields have generally been on the lighter side, these games have still produced plenty of thrilling results. Last night, two high ranking Malaysian pros earned the largest payday of their career; Ivan Leow won the €100K Leon’s High Roller event for €1,251,455 (~US$1,422,140) and Michael Soyza finished 3rd for €521,471 (~US$592,594).
We’ve got that story for you below along with an update of the Main Event. 50 players remain at the end of Day 3 with past champion Ryan Reiss at the helm.
Ivan Leow conquers the €100K Leon’s High Roller
Ivan Leow – Photo King’s Casino2018 continues to be a millionaire year for Ivan Seng Yee Leow. The Malaysian pro just shipped his fifth-ever career title and a third seven-figure live tournament payday. All this in six short months. His latest victory was the €100K Leon’s High Roller event topping the 33 entry field for €1,251,455 (~US$1,422,140), his largest live tournament score.
Ever since Leow’s 6th place finish at the HK$1M Triton Super High Roller Main Event in Montenegro in May, he has been shaking up the big leagues. He captured his first career victory later that month at the Oriental Poker Championship HK$100K High Roller event in Macau; earned his first million payout at the Triton Super High Roller Series in Jeju at the HK$500K Short Deck Ante Only, then proceeded to win the partypoker Triton Super High Roller event in Russia for another US$1.1 Million.
Final Table Results
1 – Ivan Leow: €1,251,455
2 – Martin Kabrhel: €773,457
3 – Michael Soyza: €521,471
4 – Tony G: €351,579
5 – Dominik Nitsche: €237,038
His rapid rise continued in Korea with a win and a 2nd place finish at the Super High Rollers events, and now Rozvadov, Czech Republic. Prior to his latest victory, Leow final tabled three events, all non-bracelet events, finishing 2nd at the €25,000 King’s Short Deck Championship won by Mikita Badziakouski.
Having had plenty of practice against the big guns the past several months, at Leon’s High Roller event Leow faced off with players the likes of Mikita Badziakouski, Stefan Schillhabel, David Peters, Matt Kirk, Sam Trickett, and Leon Tsoukernik. All of these players failed to reach the money, including Manig Loeser who fell on the bubble.
First to the money was Dominik NItsche who interestingly has cashed in three events in Rozvadov, all of them a 5th place finish. Antanas Guoga aka Tony G, a rare sight in live events these days, pulled off 4th place, and taking 3rd was Michael Soyza.
Alike Leow, Soyza has been tearing up the felt all over the world. Among his numerous victories this year was a big one at the Mid-States Poker Tournament Deepstack Championship Series. He pocketed US$588,249 at the US$1,655 No Limit Hold’em event. That was his largest live score until his recent 3rd place finish in Rozvadov which earned him €521,457 (~US$592,594).
Just as impressive was Martin Kabrhel who recently won his second-ever bracelet at the WSOPE €100K Super High Roller event. Kabrhel finished 2nd to Leow and mounted another big score of €773,457 to his growing list of live earnings.
To further amplify Leow’s incredible performance this year, out of his US$5.55M total live earnings, US$5.43M was claimed just this year. He has now overtaken Wai Kin Yong at The Hendon Mob’s Malaysia All Time Money List. He sits in 4th rank.
PayoutsPrize pool: €3,562,581 (US$3,135,000) – Entries: 33
1st Ivan Seng Yee Leow – Malaysia – €1,251,455 (~US$1,422,140)2nd Martin Kabrhel – Czech Republic – €773,4573rd Michael Soyza – Malaysia – €521,4574th Anatanas Guoga (Tony G) – Lithuania – €351,5795th Dominik Nitsche – Germany – €237,038
Ryan Reiss bags the lead at Main Event Day 3
Ryan Riess – Photo King’s CasinoThe €10,350 No Limit Hold’em Main Event saw 165 players of Day 2 downsize to just 50 players at the end of the night. Sitting at the top with a massive stack was Ryan Reiss – 2013 WSOP Main Event champion. Reiss bagged up 4,233,000 (over 200x the big blind) while his closest competitor was Ivan Gabriell with 2,412,000.
Day 2 chip leader, Dario Sammartino held strong and sits in ninth rank with 1,503,000 and Day 1A chip leader Marco Slacanac is down the rung with 677,000. In addition to Reiss, three WSOP bracelet winners are in the running, Igor Kurganov, Niall Farrell, and Norbert Szecsi. For Day 1B chip leader, Adrian Mateos, he exited outside of the money.
Among the notable players in the money were Rainer Kempe (52nd), Tobias Peters (53rd), Dietrich Fast (59th), Piotr Nurzynski (61st), Jan-Eric Schwippert (67th), Will Givens (76th), Mustapha Kanit (78th), and Ben Heath (80th).
The hunt for the 2018 WSOPE Main Event title continues. The event drew in 534 entries for a prize pool of €5,073,000. The eventual winner is due to pocket the €1,122,239 first prize. We will continue to have WSOPE updates right here in Somuchpoker.com.
